Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My name is Sharmaine D. Barnes and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist of Christian faith who works within a framework grounded not only in psychology, but also the Word of God. I provide biblical as well as psychological solutions for your emotional struggles.
I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) through the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP)
Christians are not immune to suffering from emotional problems. In fact, every day I see Christians who are suffering from a range of emotional problems: anxiety, loneliness, grief over broken relationships, resentment, anger, feelings of inadequacy, etc. Often these individuals have been told by religious leaders, family members, and friends that they "don't have enough faith," "are not obedient," "don't spend enough time in the Word," etc. However, Job (Job 6:14) recognized as only a person in pain can do, that simple answers not only fail to relieve pain, they can literally drive a person further away from God and create more suffering and emotional harm.
As a Christian therapist, I offer an empathetic ear, a caring heart, and a commitment to help walk you through the healing process from your past or present hurt and pain. I firmly believe that God has equipped and empowered me to provide wise counsel and ministering to the emotional and spiritual needs of His children, to inspire faith and hope, and help guide His children toward more abundant, fulfilled lives. I respect and value all of my clients and thank God for the lives he has allowed me to touch. I consider counseling as my ministry and am passionate about the work I do. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, let me work with you to achieve your goals.
While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying Biblically based principles with complementary therapeutic approaches and techniques, I will help you unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic approach, I can help you modify your thinking and behaviors to promote a life of growth, happiness and healthy relationships. I can provide you with skilled support to help repair your troubled relationships and re-route unproductive thinking and behavior patterns. I will support you as you work to integrate insights about how your own thought and behavioral patterns, as well as your family history, have affected your life.
